GREEN BAY - More than 30 years have passed since U.S. soldiers served in Vietnam. Veteran Don Jones said it's time to honor those who fought, and he's directing an event to do that called LZ Lambeau.
“To pay tribute to the veterans who have survived and never really got a welcome home but we're going to make sure they get one,” said Jones.
LZ stands for Landing Zone, a place of safety for troops. The three day event is expecting thousands. It will have exhibits and displays from Vietnam. But one group of veteran's feels it's influencing others to support war.
“To me the welcome home means nothing. It's more of a recruitment thing or a pushing of militarization,” said Vietnam veteran Will Williams.
Veterans for Peace member Buzz Davis said LZ Lambeau’s displays of military weapons will glorify battle. He said it focuses solely on combat and not on any other issues.
“It's just a snapshot of what war is about. It is not dealing with what are the issues, what were the issues behind Vietnam, who was right and wrong,” said Davis...

...While there is disagreement on the event and its purpose, both sides do have one agreement, they support veterans.
PADUCAH, Ky. Sept. 4, 2009 — A former soldier received five consecutive life sentences Friday for his role in the rape and murder of an Iraqi teenager and the slaying of three of her family members.
Green told the judge he merely followed orders from other soldiers involved in the attack.
"You can act like I'm a sociopath. You can act like I'm a sex offender or whatever," Green said. "If I had not joined the Army, if I had not gone to Iraq, I would not have got caught up in anything."
At a hearing in May, Green repeatedly apologized to the al-Janabi family, saying he knew little about Iraqis and realizes now his actions then were wrong.
